“Welsman is that rarest of discoveries: a fully formed artist with the musicality, imagination and looks to cruise to the top of the jazz vocal genre.” Don Heckman, Los Angeles Times

Carol Welsman is an internationally acclaimed singer and pianist whose expressive vocal styling and dynamic stage presence have captivated audiences around the world. She has sold over 60,000 CDs in Canada alone, something few jazz/pop artists in Canada have experienced.

Granddaughter of the founder and first conductor of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Carol was born with music in her soul. She mastered the violin and bass before finishing high school. Her passion for jazz led her to Boston’s Berklee College of Music in the 80s, where she majored in piano performance. Carol later traveled to Europe, and studied voice with Christiane Legrand (sister of Michel) and teamed up as a songwriter with Romano Musumarra, writing lyrics for artists like Ray Charles, Luciano

Pavarotti, Celine Dion and Nicole Scherzinger.
She has performed with over twenty “Pops” programs with symphony orchestra across North America, has enjoyed three sold-out tours in Japan with Ken Peplowski’s Big Band and has released 12 CDs to date. Six of her CD’s have received Juno Award nominations, the Canadian equivalent to the Grammy Awards. Her CD “Memories of You” won the Japan Jazz Critics Magazine Gold Award. Pop icon Celine Dion recorded Carol’s original song “Baby Close Your Eyes” on her “Miracle” CD (2004). In addition to her 6 Juno Award nominations, Carol has received a number of awards including Vocalist of the Year in the 1996 National Jazz Awards, Distinguished Alumni Award from Berklee College of Music (2002), Pianist and Vocalist of the Year at the 2006 and 2008 Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards. She also remained in the top 20 and was the #1 selling album at Yamano Music, Tokyo’s prominent jazz retailer.

Welsman has become well-established as an international artist, touring the world, and performing in Italian, French, Portuguese and English. www.carolwelsman.com
