Jazz Education Programs
GCJS reaches thousands of children each year through programs
of jazz education. In school activities and performances
and SEAS (Student Enrichment in Arts
& Science) performances at the Broward Center
introduce students to jazz in a lively and educational format.
Jeanette Russell Scholarship
In memory of Jeanette Russell and Ray Sauerwein
To perpetuate the musical art form of jazz, students in grades
six and up are awarded scholarships to attend summer jazz
camps or college music programs. Economically disadvantaged
students from the state of Florida may apply to receive
scholarship funds to pursue jazz studies. GCJS has awarded over
$60,000 in scholarships. To find out more about the

Gold Coast Jazz Society Band

South Florida's finest resident jazz musicians perform concerts
that preserve the musical heritage of America. Performing tribute
concerts, educational programs such as "Jazz for Kids" and themed
shows such as "A Tribute to Benny Goodman," the GCJS Band has
sold out performances at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
Band members have included: Eric Allison, woodwinds; Chris LaBarbera,
trumpet; Hank Bredenberg, trombone; Gary Lawrence, piano; and bassist
Phil Flanigan. The GCJS Band is available for private affairs,
concert series and community events. If you're planning a special
event, fundraiser or celebration, the GCJS Band can provide
entertainment that will delight your guests.

Mary Porter Day of Jazz Films
Whether watching a legendary performance or finding out the story
behind the music, the Mary Porter Jazz Film Festival is an ideal
way to experience the thrills of jazz. This film event is a tribute
to the world's greatest performers.
